The votes are in and there are more than 25,000. The White House will be forced to reply to a petition posted at "We the People" site at the White House Website. The petition asks for a "death star" space-superiority platform and weapon system. (The number required for a White House reply was only 5,000 until Steven Bassett got 5,000 signatures on a petition asking the U.S. government to acknowledge formally that aliens have visited Earth and to disclose any intentional withholding of government interactions with extraterrestrial beings. At that point the White House changed the rules raising the number of signatures required to 25,000)
As defined by Wikipedia "The Death Star is a fictional moon-sized spacestation and superweapon appearing in the Star Wars movies and expanded universe. It is capable of destroying a planet with a single destructive energy beam."
The success of this vote is  another reminder in addition to the recent tragedy in Connecticut that weapons are a key component of American society. The success of this petition drive harkens back to the warning made by President Dwight Eisenhower who stated in his final White House speech
"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of  unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial   complex.  The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced  power exists and will persist.
We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties  or democratic processes.  We should take nothing for granted.  Only an  alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the  huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful  methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together."
